Why Going It Alone Shouldn’t Mean Flying Solo

Going it alone should mean exactly that, shouldn’t it? In truth, no. Despite how determined you are to pull off your enterprise, no person is an island. If you take on all the work, the quality of every aspect will suffer, as will your mental state. Burnout is common in entrepreneurs who take too much on their shoulders. It can have disastrous effects. The way around the problem is to stop seeing asking for help as a weakness. Instead, see it as the strength your business needs to succeed. Admitting you can’t do it all is a strength, and it’s all that stands between you and the business you dream of. But, if you’ve not asked for help until now, it can be hard to know where to start. So, we’ve put a list together to help you.

COMPANIES CAN GET YOU OFF THE GROUND

Your first port of call should be the companies that can get you off the ground. These will be the difference between make and break. We’re all reluctant to spend money when starting out. After all, you have yet to see any real return. But, this is money you need to pay. As you are starting out, you don’t know the ins and outs of the business. So, pay somebody who does. First, you need to get yourself an accountant. Having someone look after the money will take a huge weight off your shoulders. It will also ensure that your accounts are in capable hands.

Outside companies can also be a huge help when it comes to marketing. If this is your first enterprise, the marketing world will seem like a strange one. Yet, getting this wrong would mean curtains straight away. Instead, hire marketing experts who can take care of business. These are people who have worked on hundreds of marketing campaigns. You could say they have a fair idea of what works. Make sure to consider your online presence, too. No company can work without one, so it’s worth paying a web development company to ensure yours is a good one. If things go well, you could even turn to agencies who supply part-time staff. It’s the perfect way to get physical help without committing to a long-term employment contract. And, it’s ideal for someone in your position.

FAVORS FROM FRIENDS

Talking of needing help but not wanting to employ; you could always turn to friends for help. This can be a harder step to take than paying a company, but it’ll make all the difference. Often, we’re reluctant to ask people we know for help. But, knowing that you have some extra hands should you need them will ensure you never have to turn away work. And, the chances are that your friends will do anything to help you get off the ground. It’s unlikely they’ll expect payment for a day of work here or there. But, if you’re going to need their help for longer, consider offering them a short-term contract. That way, you can pay them for the help they give, and they’re more likely to do it again next time. As well as the literal ease of the burden, having your friends work with you can be a lot of fun. Your project is your baby. Sharing that excitement with someone is the best reward any business owner could ask for. So, make the most of their company and show them the things you’re most excited about. It’ll give you a real boost, and remind you why you’re working so hard!

INSPIRATION

Help comes in many different forms, and not all are physical. As well as needing people to help with your business, you may need a boost from outside sources. And, what better sources than the brilliant minds that have come before? Turning to the wise words of people who have made a success of things helps in two significant ways. First, it will help you solve the key to success. You’ll be able to take their advice, and apply it to what you’re doing. And, you already know it works because you’ve seen what it did for them. Second, it’ll give you a boost when you need one most. Starting a business isn’t easy, and anyone who said it was is a liar. There are going to be highs and lows. Turning to outside inspiration when you’re experiencing a low will ensure you don’t stay down for long. It’ll be the boost you need to remind you why you’re doing it in the first place. It can be especially useful to take inspiration from those with a similar background to you. Advice from someone born into millions may not have the same ring to it. Being able to relate to somebody will ensure the advice hits close to home. If it helps, print off your favorite inspirational quotes and hang them around your work area. Make sure to look at them anytime you doubt yourself.

EMOTIONAL LOVE

Talking about things being hard; you’re also going to need the emotional support of your partner. This may be the most difficult point of all. More than anyone, we seek our partner’s approval. We want them to see the best of us, and be proud of what we do. And, you can guarantee your partner is immensely proud of what you’ve achieved. But, don’t let your pride stop you from turning to them when you need some emotional support. If you can’t be honest with your partner, who can you talk to? Make sure you don’t cover up problems because you don’t want to seem like you’re struggling. We’re human. Remember, you are not an island. Instead, get into the habit of telling your partner about the good, the bad, and the ugly. If you’ve had a bad day, get it off your chest. They’ll want to hear it, and you’ll feel better for the unburdening. It doesn’t lessen your success in any way. In fact, it makes you stronger.
