There a lot of things you can do within your company to create a happy workplace for your employees, but there improvements you could make to the office itself that could also increase productivity and happiness. Despite good relationships amongst your staff and between management and employees, you might have noticed some people are still unenthusiastic about spending time in the office. In which case, it might be time to consider that the environment is not conducive to a productive mentality. Here are some improvements you could make to address this problem and turn your area into a good office space.
Location
As a business owner, you want to have a good location to attract customers, but you should also consider the needs of your employees. Most of them will be commuting, and if this is the worst part of their day they won’t come into the office excited to start work. Consider how close the building is to the nearest subway or rail line, or if it’s easy to arrive by bus, bicycle and automobile routes. If too many employees have a difficult time getting to work, then you need to choose between an Office Relocation Service or telecommuting to address this issue. You’re likely to lose good workers if the hassle of the daily commute becomes too unbearable.
Clear out clutter
A small office feels even more cramped if you’re crowded by boxes, old documents, unopened packages, piles of paper, receipts, files and miscellaneous junk. If you only do one thing to make the office a welcoming environment, it should be clearing out the clutter and putting everything in its place. This means filing anything that doesn’t need to be out and keeping everything you don’t need constantly, in drawers or cabinets. Your employees shouldn’t fear being crushed and suffocated by a mountain of paperwork before they’ve even started on their own work.
Brighten up the space
Your employees might spend an average of 40 hours a week in the office, so the space itself is the most important factor to their comfort. No one feels inspired while working in a barely lit room with dull decor. Proper lighting can make a dramatic difference in your employees’ mood, behavior, productivity and hormonal balance. Use natural light to your advantage whenever possible, and brighten up the room with some freshness from the outside world. Living plants, fresh orchids, a unique stone or seashell, or even an aquarium filled with colorful fish can bring a touch of comfort to the office and make employees feel at ease.
Provide comfort
It’s not easy being stuck behind a desk for around 8 hours a day. When buying the office furniture, you should pay particular attention to the chairs. The quality and comfort of your office chair affects the health and productivity of your employees. Each chair should be comfortable enough to spend a few hours sitting in it, the height and backrest should be adjustable to accommodate individual comfort, and they should have arm rests at a 90 degree angle.

We have a Law Firm in Texas. We’d been renting the same office for almost 5 years. But we didn’t agree on a rental price raise. Therefore we had to look for cheaper choices. We knew about this coworking offices trend. We decided to try it for a change. We do not regret it. I think it was a positive spin for our company and employees. Our office is in Ranch offices. It’s an affordable place with well-designed spaces and a good location in the city. How long have you been renting your office spaces?
Thanks for the tip to choose an office space that can attract customers while making it accessible to employees at the same time. I will definitely use these tips to help my aunt open up her law business. Aside from your tips, I thought about hiring an agent in order to make the search faster. Any tips on who to hire?
It was helpful when you said to make sure the location of the building is close to some public transport. I would think that it would help improve traffic of your office and help the employees. It is also helpful if the location looks nice and presentable, I always like greenery around the workplace.
Thanks for your comment!
I just changed my office this weekend from an open space to a bedroom. Lighting is such a huge thing. I recommend not having your computer where the glare hits your screen and bounces back into your eyes. If you stare at your screen all day long, softer lighting is best. Also, keep some sort of exercise equipment nearby. Sitting kills! I heard you’re supposed to get up and move every hour.
