Looking to Purchase a Home? Start with the Right Agent

find-the-right-agentOne of the benefits of being a small business owner is that I get to work from home in my own office. This is the dream of many entrepreneurs, but before you can have that home office, you first need the home. I remember searching for my first house several years ago, and the process started out easy enough. After getting my finances in order, I set out to find an agent to help me. Since I was moving to an unfamiliar area, I needed someone who was knowledgeable of the neighborhoods. A friend sent me the information of a woman with a reputable firm with good credentials. I contacted her both by email and by phone and looked forward to her call. She didn’t call back, but she did send a list of properties that I could check out. This was not the personable response I was looking forward to, so back to the drawing board I went. Luckily, through the recommendation of another friend, I found an agent who set up an appointment to meet with me to go over my needs. Once that was established, he drove me around the city looking at home after home until I found the perfect one. It was easy to find the right home once I had a great real estate agent. If you’re in the market for a new place, here are a few things you should look for.

A problem-solver – Things in the home buying process don’t always go as planned. You want someone in your corner who can provide solutions if the inspection report comes back worse than expected or a seller tries to back out at the last minute.

Personable – You will be in contact with this person on a regular basis, so you want to make sure you get along. If your personalities clash, no matter how great the agent is supposed to be, you should consider going with someone else.

Operates with integrity – While this should be a given, make sure your agent is honest every step of the way. Some agents do not have your best interest at heart and will show you properties with high commission but not within your price range or requirements.

Using these tips will help you find a real estate agent to get you the home of your dreams.
