It doesn’t matter what sector you are working in, whether it is IT services or healthcare, chances are you have a waiting room. That’s because we aren’t robots. We are humans. Appointments run over, people arrive early, the rush hour madness was even worse than usual; all of these reasons come into play, and that’s without even mentioning professional courtesy. You don’t want to have a potential investor turn up and have nowhere for them to sit and wait.
Of course, you’d like to be as punctual as possible and try to minimize the amount of time anyone spends waiting for you. But given this isn’t always easy to do, why not create a comfortable environment for them to wait, somewhere that they won’t mind sitting patiently. It will certainly go a long way in giving them a good impression of your business. And whether it is a candidate coming for a job interview or an Angel investor, a good impression can only be a good thing.
Be Welcoming From The Outset
You are going to want people to walk in and be impressed, and that requires careful consideration of your space. So why not spend a couple of minutes looking around your reception area when you go to work tomorrow, consider how a splash of color may help, or a few indoor plants, or imagine what a few pieces of timeless artwork adorning your walls could do to a person’s impression of your business. Make your employees feel proud to work where they do, make people want to work for you and make other companies want to be associated with you.
Accommodate Everyone
Don’t focus on just one type of person, because life is made up of over seven billion individuals. If you work in business services, then make sure you accommodate those who may require wheelchair access, or those that have hearing or sight problems. If you have a doctors surgery, why not speak to someone who specializes in medical office design and explains that you want somewhere that children can play, and where children will want to play, but without disturbing other patients too much. If your business is a technology company, then why not show off and provide anyone in your waiting room with the chance to kill some time by playing with some tech, whether that be an iPad or console.
Go Online
What better way is there to show you are a progressive company, determined to keep up with the times than to have a service that people can either access online or see what the current waiting times are like. It could even be that you can send a notification to those scheduled to come in that informs them about any tardiness your end. Make a cool website, have an app, anything that says you are up to date with the latest trends, something that will reassure them of your company, while not wasting their time either.
