Your employees are vital cogs in your business machine. If you do not give them the proper care and attention that they need, they will lack motivation and not be very engaged in their work. Most employees like to feel valued and that what they do matters. To ensure that they feel this way, you can put a lot of strategies into place that will help them feel valued, and ultimately this will enhance your productivity. So, let’s takes a look at a few today:
A Company Culture
A great company culture is essential in creating an atmosphere where everyone feels valued, listened to, and understands how their role contributes to the larger picture. As a manager, you need to lead by example. Open and honest communication needs to be something that starts from the top. So, have regular team meetings where you advise your staff on the future of the company. Let them know what your vision for the company is, this could be anything, but if your staff are on-board with this, then it creates more purpose. Ensure that everyone has the chance to contribute to the discussion and actively listen. Try to learn all your staff’s names too. Encourage regular one-to-one meetings too, where each member of staff has an hour or so with their manager, possibly you, and you can discuss their performance and ensure that everything is okay.
Take Care of Their Comfort Levels
It is important that your staff are all comfortable; while sitting at their desks. So that means investing in good office furniture such as ergonomic chairs, adjustable desks, or even a standing desk solutions for some staff. Consider the height of the monitors and make desk assessments a requirement whenever anyone moves. You do not want anyone feeling uncomfortable due to their seating. This can lead to them constantly readjusting their sitting position, taking quick walks around the block, or even resulting in injuries. Also, consider giving free tea and coffee, and make sure things like the toilets are not only clean but pleasant spaces. The canteen and break areas need to be pleasant too.
Recognize Hard Work
If one of your employees excels in something or goes above and beyond, then it is important that you recognize this hard work. A great reward scheme is an essential part of making your staff feel valued and like their hard work does not go unnoticed. You can reward your staff in any way you see fit, from gift cards, to free shares. You can even ask the employee how they would like to be rewarded too.
Flexibility
Flexibility is a sign of a great company. If it is feasible, could you have flexible working hours, where a staff member can start at any time as long as it is before noon and do their full shift from that time? Also, with the advances in remote working thanks to Covid-19, offering staff the ability to work from home when and when they need to can be a huge benefit.
