How to Stay Energized During a Long Workday

You’ll need a constant and reliable supply of energy for those days where you’ll be burning through the midnight oil at your desk when you’re usually relaxing in front of the TV, reading or unwinding at a bar. Learn how to maintain your productivity for those marathon workdays.


Eat Healthy

The absolute best thing you can do for your body and mind is eat healthy throughout the day. Start with a breakfast of whole grains, protein and water. Avoid unhealthy snacks or a quick lunch no matter how convenient they might be. Pack your own lunch and keep some nutritious snacks at your desk.


Move Around

If you ever find yourself stuck on an idea or just feeling frustrated with the way the workday is going, get up and walk around the office for a bit. Get your blood and those ideas flowing as you stretch your legs. Switch to a standing desk and have a more ergonomic workspace for those times when you’re working in your normal work space.


Stop Straining Your Eyes

You’re not doing your vision any favors by looking at a computer screen all day. You might be straining your eyes and not even realize it. Every 20 minutes give your eyes a break and look at an object 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.


Get in More Exercise

Regular exercise does wonders for your physique and your energy levels. Try to get in at least 20 minutes of exercise three times a week or more. Make sure you have a balanced regime with cardio and strength building that hit all of the major muscle groups in order to have a more balanced exercise plan and body. If you’re truly busy, sneak in exercise. Park far away from the door, take the stairs or take public transportation to work if you can. Walking to the bus station and standing up while on the bus make for great leg and cardiovascular exercises.


Set up a Ritual

Have a cup of tea at a specific time every day, take five minutes to watch funny cat video or have a five-minute dance break. Small daily rituals give you something to look forward to and are great for breaking up an otherwise monotonous workday. Just because you’re working for someone else doesn’t mean that you can’t take out a bit of time for yourself.

A long workday doesn’t have to feel like a drag or completely exhaust you. With these hacks you may even have a bit of energy left over when you’re finally ready to call it a day.
