Are We Overthinking Our Advertising?

It’s a very important question to ask, but are we overthinking every single method in how we are advertising our business? We spend infinite time, money, and resources on outsourcing contractors to help pump up our website to make it appeal to a wider demographic. We spend a lot of time going back to the products and making the most minute of tweaks to make it appeal better overseas, and we encourage our staff to keep their ears to the ground for the latest in social media trends. But when it boils down to it, what is it that we really need to communicate to the right customer? Having all those bells and whistles won’t work if you don’t have the right substance. So here are a few things to think about in your marketing.

Focus Your Audience

The advertising strategies don’t begin with the marketing agency or the website, it starts away before these. It’s when you conduct market research and understand who, in very specific terms, your target market is. Collecting the data is probably the most appropriate bit of leg work you can do to make sure that your business gets off the ground and off to a flying start.

Forging An Identity

In other words, your brand. Are customers able to identify your adverts based on your choice of colors, your imagery, your content, or your typeface? If so then you have a well-defined brand. If not, it’s time to go back to the drawing board and start to craft your brand. You need people to be able to identify with your brand instantly in all manners of advertising, from digital ads on a billboard to viral marketing, or even the simple advert in a newspaper. Even on something as large as a billboard, a digital advert with a recognizable brand can be something to catapult your small business into a much larger world. You can learn about digital ads and their impact on the senses from the perspective of a small business and what it can do for those businesses. The brand is everything because it is your identity, and this is what you need to fully decide on at the outset, and while it is tempting to change your branding with every new ad campaign, this can be very confusing for customers. Familiarity is the key to establishing a worthy brand.

Making Sure Your Advertising Works

What use are showy advertising methods if we can’t check whether it works or not? And so it’s an arduous process to craft the right campaign, but it’s important to use advertising platforms like Google AdWords which can give you statistics related to your online advertising to show you what is working effectively. You can then make the most effective changes for the next round of marketing. It’s always better to get sufficient feedback rather than flying blindly in this respect. Advertising, in many respects, is a case of trial and error, but if you can get the statistics on how your adverts are doing and if you are targeting them correctly this can be something that will save you a lot of money in the long term.

Advertising doesn’t have to be a difficult process, as long as you understand who you are advertising for, your identity is clear, and if you can get decent feedback on how your campaigns are doing. These should be all you require at the outset to build an extensive and effective marketing campaign.
