West Ham Football Players Dip into Their Entrepreneurial Side

Robert Green, Sam Baldock, Matthew Taylor and Joey O’Brien try their hands at forex trading

Footballers aren’t often known for having noteworthy intellect or being business savvy, but some of the players from West Ham have shown that their skills on the floor aren’t restricted to the football pitch. For one day only, the West Ham boardroom was transformed into a Forex spread trading arena, with some very impressive results. Who would have known that Robert Green could make £16,400 in one minute?

For those that don’t know, forex spread trading involves betting on the amount a currency’s value will fluctuate by, with the potential for huge profits. The players were allowed to try their hand on a demo platform before they start to trade money for real. Each was given £500,000 of virtual money to play with, but what’s interesting is the way the West Ham football stars play trades on the financial markets.

While Rob, Matt and Joey dived straight in with big money, Sam played it cool and tested the market with small £1 bets at first. This means that he would bet £1 per point that a value changed, for instance, if the price of one euro increased from £0.8566 to £0.8569, he would make £3, but would lose the same amount if the price fell by the same number of points. With the other stars betting upwards of £1000 per point, you can see how massive profits can be made.

The players were all surprised how quickly the markets can change, and that every second can be important. That’s all part of the thrill of forex spread betting, but expert traders know that being able to predict price movements and having a proper strategy is the key to success.

Although Rob’s £16,400 profit in one minute was very impressive, it was Sam’s careful technical analysis that won him the day, finishing with a profit of £5586.
