How to Start a Recycling Program in Your Company

It makes no sense to throw away things that can be used again. Fortunately, many people all around the world are starting to see the many advantages of recycling. In fact, there are many communities that have recycling programs where residents simply have all of their recyclable materials picked up once every week. London is an example of a large city that has mandatory recycling. Every London resident needs to recycle or they will be fined. Both small and large companies have jumped on board the recycling bandwagon in recent years. They have done this by starting programs that encourage all of their employees to recycle. Here is how you can start a recycling program in your company, even if it is a small business.

1. Send out a memo

A recycling program at your company will not work unless all of your employees know that it exists. Therefore, you should write a memo explaining which materials you will be recycling and where they should be placed when they need to be disposed of. It is up to you if you want to make the program mandatory. You might want to strongly encourage all of your employees to participate. Many companies have reported that their employees like to recycle and it did not take much effort to persuade them.

2. Distribute containers for recyclable materials

The best way to ensure the participation of your employees in your recycling program is to make it as easy for them as possible. Do not force your employees to go out of their way to dispose of their recyclable items. Place containers for recycling next to the regular trash cans. This is the most common way that most companies do it. This allows your employees to separate their trash and recyclable items in just a few seconds.

3. Make bales out of your recyclable materials

You will not need to get all of your recyclable materials ready to be picked up by the recycling company. Most recycling companies will not simply haul away a dumpster filled with loose recyclable materials. You will need to crush these items together and make bales that are easy for the company to haul to the recycling center. Separate bails will need to be made for each type of material you are disposing of. Miltek balers have a reputation for being very dependable to use for all of your recycling needs. Recycling at your company will make the world a little bit cleaner.

    Its an nice share..

After reading this I can say that the first step is to assign a ‘recycling coordinator’ who is committed and interested in spearheading the recycling program in your company.

The recycling coordinator needs to enlist management’s support before pursuing the program.

Once your recycling program is up and running, begin recycling other waste in your company such as cans and bottles. Continue to build on your successes as you progress.

  6. A company that has a solid waste disposal policy is able to reduce operation costs and it also saves storage spaces. I like the idea of reducing, re-using and recycling and if this concept is properly adopted by all companies, we can definitely have a clean working environment.

  7. I like that you mentioned putting containers for recyclable materials. My wife and I plan to make a segregation pit and a compost pile for our neighborhood. We would like to get some help from an e-waste disposal expert near California.
