Galaxy Note7 in Your Pocket Still? How to Decide if You Should Exchange It

Samsung made a global announcement that it is recalling all Galaxy Note7 devices sold before September 15, 2016. The recall affects more than one million people, and this is news that no Note7 owner should ignore. Is there still a Galaxy Note7 in your pocket? You need to exchange it, ASAP.

Why Is the Note7 Being Recalled?

The Note7 is being recalled because the battery can get too hot and then explode or catch fire. Several people have reported damage to houses and cars as well as personal injury. The official recall notice stated, “Consumers should immediately stop using and power down the recalled Galaxy Note7 devices.” The notice then went on to say that customers should return the phone to where it was purchased for a refund or replacement. It is also illegal to sell or resell one of the recalled phones.

Is It OK If I Just Keep My Note7?

No, it is not OK to keep your Note7. Recalls should not be taken lightly. If your battery gets too hot, it can cause injury or damage. Take Samsung’s advice and exchange your phone for a safe model. Even the Federal Aviation Administration has made a statement about use of the Note7. The FAA does not want anyone to use or charge the device while on board aircraft or to store it in checked baggage.

How Hard Is It to Replace or Return My Note7?

Recalls are never fun because they result in a hassle for customers. No one wants to go into their phone dealer and then wait in line for service. However, most customers have not been met with long lines when going to exchange their Note7. You can also preorder a new phone to speed up the process. It’s scary to think that your device could potentially explode while you’re using it, so you should not delay. If you have any doubt in your mind about whether you should exchange the phone, you should do it. Samsung has deemed the phone dangerous and urges all users to shut it off and not continue to charge it.

Samsung is taking the necessary steps to ensure all of the faulty Note7 devices are replaced in a timely manner. This includes newspaper ads, an 800 number, promoted tweets, emails to customers, and a special website with information about the recall. There was even a recent phone update that notified users that the phone needs to be shut off and returned because of the recall. Most phone dealers and carriers have also notified customers about the Samsung Galaxy Note7 recall.

Should I Continue to Trust Samsung as a Smartphone Brand?

It’s unfortunate that Samsung has experienced a recall as massive as that of the Note7. Company stocks have definitely taken a hit since the recall was announced. USA Today reports that the company has lost $10 billion in market value, and the recall itself is expected to cost the company $900 million.

Many people think that despite the Note7 recall, customers will remain loyal to the Samsung brand. This is because Samsung is not perceived as doing anything wrong or trying to cheat anyone. Plus, the issue of lithium-ion batteries overheating is not new. Apple, Toshiba, Sony, Dell, and Hewlett Packard have all had to recall computers for this reason.

It’s also important to note that Samsung did not wait too long to recall its defective product. Many customers are exchanging the Note7 for other Samsung products, such as the Galaxy S7. To assure customers that new Note7 phones are safe, Samsung updated the software to show a green battery icon. The Galaxy Note7 and other Samsung phones rival the iPhone and all other smartphone brands. As long as the battery problem is fixed, customers will most likely continue to buy Samsung phones, and the company is expected to bounce back from the recall.

If you haven’t turned in your Note7 yet, it’s time to go to your local phone dealer. Samsung is doing what it can to make the process go smoothly. It shouldn’t cost you any money. The decision about whether to exchange the recalled Note7 is easy — you should!
