Expanding Your Team: 4 Surprising Places Where Experts Gather

Nothing in life is ever static. Everything is either growing, or shrinking. Even the universe itself is currently growing, and will one day stop only to begin instantly shrinking.

Business is no different – either you grow, or you risk being overtaken and forced to shrink. So where do you find experts when expanding your team? In what places might you be able to source the right candidates for your open developer position?

  1. Social Media

Social media is huge these days – it’s almost impossible to find somebody who isn’t using it! With an estimated 3 billion users by 2021, the majority of the modern world either is or will soon be on social media. Places like Facebook and Instagram can connect you with coders, developers and more if you know where to look – Facebook groups are a great start, and with Insta you can use hashtags to find what you’re looking for. However, professional networks such as LinkedIn are your best bet when looking for new talent.

  1. Craigslist and Other Service Sites

While social networks can connect you to socially active workers, there are plenty who don’t invest much time in social networking either. Less tech-savvy types are likely to post their availability on service sites such as Craigslist. This gets them in front of plenty of eyes who have the intent to hire, and at low cost too. Service sites can be a great place to find quality workers at a good price. They have placed the ad because they need work and you have a variety of people to choose from if this is the route you take.

  1. Upwork, Fiverr and Other Freelance Sites

Freelancing has become very popular over the last few years. With high-speed internet access and wireless connectivity so widespread, people are loving the convenience of working from home, abroad or anywhere else they like. Alongside people switching from regular jobs where they have to travel to a place of employment, there’s also a growing trend of full-time workers supplementing their income with some freelancing on the side.

There’s a variety of freelance sites where you can find quality workers, many of them with options to filter by your own criteria – so you can find exactly the type of worker you’re looking for! Another advantage of these sites is their feedback system, lowering your chances of hiring a bad worker,

  1. Recruiting Agencies

Recruiting agencies are a well-known place to source all kinds of employees, from low-entry generalised workers to highly talented specialists. An agency often has a vast log of workers available on a full or part time basis. You can discuss any opportunities on your team with the agency, they will be knowledgeable enough to advise you on what to look for, and may even be able to recommend specific employees.

Other Notes

Of course, whichever route you decide to take for your expansion, make sure you always do your due diligence. Don’t just trust the word of an applicant or agency. Check sample work and get references or feedback from past clients, use interviews and trial periods to be sure you get exactly what you’re looking for.
