Faucets are an essential part to any bathroom remodeling job.  Customers may ask your opinion on what style would be best with the look they have chosen, you may be responsible for finding bathroom faucets that fits a description they gave you, you could be responsible for the numerous options available, or you need to find the right parts to complete your next job.  Regardless of why you are looking for the faucet, the bathroom will not look right if the type of sink base and overall style desired are not taken into consideration.  Once you have found the faucet design, you have to decide on the type of finish.  This can be harder than it sounds.  Your customer may want a certain color, or certain characteristics, that can be met by numerous types of finish. Only by understanding the benefits of each type of finish will you be able to ensure the customer is happy.  You should always consider what the costumer desires as well as providing them with the information on what would work best for their situation.

First, you should consider the level of functionality your bathroom sink needs from its faucet.  What is your goal?  What should the bathroom faucet do for the bathroom itself?  Do you want a faucet simply because you need one, or do you want one that adds to the décor and atmosphere of your bathroom?  You can also consider what other tasks will be done by the faucet besides just washing your hands, and this will help you when looking at the functionality level you want from your faucet.

Next, think about what style faucet you want.  Faucets are continuously being created using new designs and now there is almost unlimited styles available.  You can still go with a traditional style faucet, but the options today as far as style goes are almost limitless.  You can choose from square, round, rectangular, or if you’re feeling really adventurous, even zigzag faucets are available.  Base the style of the bathroom faucet on the overall style you are trying to achieve for the bathroom itself.  If you have a traditional bathroom, conventional faucets are better, square works well with romantic décor, and zigzag adds a little bit of fun to the bathroom.

Functionality and style are essential to choosing the right faucet, but thinking about the sink is probably the most important consideration you should look at when choosing your bathroom faucet.  You need the bathroom to flow well together, and the faucet and sink will contrast and stick out if they are not the same.  For example, a simple faucet works well with a traditional sink.  If you have a basin or bowl, a faucet that can enhance the unique style of the bowl or basin is ideal.  Dark sinks go well with nickel or white faucets, but lighter sinks match faucets with a darker finish.  You also want to make sure the number of holes in the sink for the faucet matches the fixture itself.  It’s important for the room to flow well together, and to do this you need to ensure that your sink and faucet match.

People struggle almost as much on deciding the right finish as they do on deciding the style and design of the fixture.  There is a lot to choose from and many different versions as well.  You can pick from nickel chrome, brass, bronze, stainless, gold, or an oil rubbed bronze bathroom faucet in order to insure the bathroom has the right feel.  In order to choose the right finish, there are things you can consider.

Remember that mixing is in these days.  A vintage finish combined with a classic faucet and placing it on a traditional sink is old.  Now a day’s people are applying old world type finishes to modern faucet shapes.  It may seem odd, but it’s the look and feel of the finish that matters when people apply it to the design of the sink.  You should also remember that you don’t have to choose the same finish for every bathroom faucet, though it can make selection easier.  IF you think one finish will look better in the guest bath but something else works for the Master bath, it’s okay to switch it up a bit.  Chrome, nickel, and other neutrals typically look good with anything.  They are easy to match with other bathroom accessories and typically affordable.  While this is true, neat freaks should consider brushed metals.  Brushed metals can help hide fingerprints and water spots and better show off the details of your bathroom faucet.

All in all, when deciding on the type of faucet you want in your bathroom you should consider how it will be used, what level of functionality you want from it, what style fits best with the room, and what type of sink the faucet is for.  When moving to selecting a finish, your best bet is to look at the displays and pick the one that looks the best before deciding on durability factors and the like.  Chances are more than one type of finish can produce the same color, so the first thing you should decide is how you want the final product to look.
