When you started out, you never thought that you would eventually have to relocate your business in an entirely new location. Whether this is a step up or an unfortunate circumstance of business, the reality is that you are now supposed to move to a strange place. Don’t fear however, as it’s not as bad as you might imagine. - Have an open mind
It’s very important to have an open mind about where you’re going. If you leave with a negative attitude, you won’t be able to find much positive at the other end of your journey. If this has been a decision made for you by someone else, it’s understandable how you might feel frustrated, but try to see the positive aspects of the move such as getting a better pay, exploring a new world and just growing as a person. If this was a decision of your own doing, try to keep in mind the reasons for which you wanted to relocate in the first place.
- Prepare thoroughly and ahead of time with packing
When it comes to moving all of your stuff, you generally have the option of doing everything yourself or hiring a company of professionals to pack and move everything for you. Regardless of which one you choose, it’s very important that you make time to prepare in advance. Take the time even months in advance and go through all the things that you want to take with you. It’s a good idea to rent a dumpster a month before you move out and learn more about waste companies. Then, when you find messy or no longer useful items, you can dispose of them away as you work through all the rooms in the house. You should also use a lot of plastic wrap to protect your computer screens and digital displays, and remove and separately move hard drives or smaller parts that could be damaged if the moving truck throws them around.
- Get insurance for your things
The worst thing that could happen is for you to arrive at your new HQ only to have a truck full of broken electronics and damaged equipment or supplies. Make sure to get insurance for everything you’re transporting, because moving companies are known to sometimes get valuable things at their destination in a less than outstanding quality.
