What is the Cloud, Anyway?

How many times in the last few years have you heard people referring to “the cloud”? It’s this magical thing that no-one seems to understand, but apparently can help your business to succeed. Well, we at Entrepreneur Resources understand it, as do many other companies and businesses out there. We know that the cloud can be a valuable asset to many businesses, saving money and helping us to carry out many tasks. We’re going to take a brief look at those tasks today; let’s get started to understand what is the cloud, anyway.

It’s A Way Of Storing Data

Anything you want to store in the cloud is theoretically possible. Depending on the service you choose, you’ll be given a certain amount of space. Videos, documents, games and whatever else you want to store can be uploaded to the cloud. This process takes your internet connection and uses its upload speeds to copy it from your device to the cloud storage system. You’ll still be able to access it on your local device if you keep it on there, but you don’t have to. Every time you go to access something from the cloud, you’ll be re-downloading it.

It’s A Backup System

Sure, you can store all of your documents on the cloud if you want to. However, you could also use the cloud as a backup system. All you have to do is ensure your most important documents are uploaded on a regular basis. Then, if something goes wrong with either your device or its hard drive, you won’t have to worry. As soon as you get a new one, you’ll be able to log in to the cloud and retrieve all of those important documents. The days of being forced to store things on CD’s or even memory sticks are no longer upon us.

It Can Be Managed For You

Hey, you’re a business, and you haven’t got time to mess around with cloud storage systems! I get that. Luckily, there are IT service companies out there to manage your cloud storage for you. They can customize and tailor it to your company’s needs, provide off-site storage, and offer secure services. Even if you’re a whizz with the cloud, you won’t get those sorts of benefits with the free options out there on the internet. It’s worth paying a little more to protect all of that precious confidential information.

You Can Access It From A Variety Of Devices

In the case of a lot of devices, they’re usually not compatible with each other in many ways. Some software will run on Windows PC’s but not Macs, and iPhone apps aren’t compatible with Android ones. However, cloud services are normally accessible from almost anything that can connect to the internet. The relative simplicity of cloud storage makes it easy to implement across a wide range of devices. You could put a music file from your PC into your cloud storage and download it on your Android phone within seconds if you wanted to.

Everyone’s talking about the cloud because it’s changing the way we think about storage. It will continue to innovate, so jump on the bandwagon and start enjoying the benefits.
