5 Tips For Saving Energy In The Workplace

So many of us waste energy in our business premises without thinking of the alternatives. We’re throwing that money away on a massive scale, and the disappointing part is that we shouldn’t have to be in that position. It’s really easy to save energy in the workplace, and it usually only takes a few minor adjustments to get it right. Let’s take a look at how we can be saving energy at work.

Improve Your Windows

You can make all sorts of adjustments to your windows to make them more energy-efficient. By changing them or adding upgrades to your existing ones, you and your employees won’t need to rely so much on heating. If you don’t believe me, look at an energy savings calculator that can show you how much money you stand to save in this area. If your windows are outdated and are in need of a change, it’s time to get it done.

Change The Light Bulbs

Many of us use energy efficient light bulbs in the workplace, but you’ll still find plenty of businesses that don’t! It’s up to you what type of bulbs you want to use, but you’ll save a lot of money with the energy efficient kind! These alternatives can make a huge difference to your overall energy bill considering the number of lights you’ll be using. They aren’t expensive to install, and you can buy them in bulk from a variety of places.

Improve Insulation

Another great way to trap all that heat in the workplace is to improve your premises’ insulation. Remember; heat rises, so a lot of it will be going up through the building and disappearing through the roof. Insulation will trap it inside the building and make sure your workers aren’t reaching for the thermostat anytime soon. It also helps to make the building feel much more comfortable to work in, especially when the wind is howling outside.

Unplug Those Appliances

How many times have you seen adverts or heard someone telling you that you should be unplugging your electrical appliances? I bet it’s a lot. In the workplace, this advice is even more important. You’ll walk past numerous laptops and printers that are left switched on at the wall. Turn them off! Don’t encourage your employees to leave their devices on at night, or even on standby. You’ll save a lot of money by switching them off altogether.

Wear More Clothes!

Of course, there’s no substitute for heat loss than to wear more clothes! Especially in the winter, when it can get very cold, there’s a temptation to leave the heating on all day. However, you don’t want to be doing that if you can help it. Invest in more company-branded jumpers, coats and jackets. If nothing else, it’s a cost-effective way of keeping everyone warm throughout those winter months. Don’t be too stingy on the heating allowance for those particularly cold days, though!

Do a bit of extra research online and you’ll come across plenty more ways to save energy in the workplace. On their own, these ideas aren’t that effective, but collectively, they’ll save a considerable amount of money over the course of a year. Don’t neglect them; start saving energy today!
