Learning to Succeed

key-to-success-smlCreating your own business is something that is anything but easy. It requires an internal ambition to achieve success regardless of the difficulties that you might encounter. Many entrepreneurs fail multiple times before they achieve true success, which is probably one of the hardest parts about being an entrepreneur.

The interesting thing is, that requirement is just the beginning of what an entrepreneur needs in order to succeed. Below is a list of some of the most important traits that successful entrepreneurs have with examples of how each benefited their businesses.

The Drive to Make Something Great Even Better

Due to the unique nature of entrepreneurial ventures, a successful entrepreneur must always be hard at work making something better. They continually strive to create something great and then to make that thing even better.

Entrepreneurs like Carl Freer are a shining example of this drive in action. He has created numerous products meant to make people’s lives better, yet his drive to create several bandages meant to ease and eliminate the pain associated with first- and second-degree burns is likely the best example of a great product that has been refined to be even better.

Looking at the Big Picture

Entrepreneurs who are truly successful look past the idea that they want to simply make money. They understand that there is a bigger picture at work, and contributing to that picture will result in undeniable success.

Mark Zuckerburg is an example of one entrepreneur who has accomplished this. His website, Facebook, started out as a simple idea meant to help college students connect with one another. Through his efforts, it expanded into something that draws people and businesses together. Even long-lost relatives have been able to find their kin using Facebook.

Thinking Outside the Box to Put the Odds in Your Favor

It’s one thing to understand that there is a larger picture at work, but it’s another thing to tackle the seemingly insurmountable odds that the more challenging steps in the development of an idea can present.

Entrepreneurs tackle unfavorable odds by thinking outside the box. This allows them to shift the odds in their favor until they inevitably find success.

Foursquare, a mobile app developed to help people find local locations that they might like based on their preferences, has encountered numerous challenges in its development. Despite this, co-founders Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai have overcome the challenges and limitations of current technology time and time again by thinking outside the box to form solutions.

Learning from Failure

While the drive to succeed and the ability to innovate are both key to ensuring success as an entrepreneur, no one thing can be more important than making mistakes and learning from them.

Successful entrepreneurs know how to differentiate simple errors from those that they can correct with a little work. They take the latter to rectify them while avoiding the former as best as they can.

Bill Gates, Sir Richard Branson and Warren Buffet are all examples of people who have made mistakes and turned them into something that they could learn from to make something great.

Entrepreneurs Never Sleep

The life of an entrepreneur is one filled with challenges that constantly arise in new and surprising ways. Some of these challenges can seem impossible to overcome, yet successful entrepreneurs do so through perseverance, the right mindset and a never-give-up attitude.
