Customers Build One Thing: Your Sales

It doesn’t matter what company you run or what marketplace you operate within, there is only one common denominator at their very core, and that is the need for sales. The construction industry is no different. In fact, with costs so high, revenue is more important in this market than most others, which is why you need to create a steady and constant stream of clients.

Of course, this is easier said than done. However, we have spoken to those that have excelled in their field, as well as those that have failed, and listed their top tips, tricks and bits of advice when it comes to increasing revenue and increasing your customer base.

  1. Only Bid On The Rights Things

Far too many construction companies think that success lies in bidding on everything. They throw their every bit of effort and every single job and see what comes their way. But this can be more harmful than good because, in construction, your reputation counts for everything, and bidding on something and then having to turn it down can tarnish your reputation. Instead, focus on what your capabilities are as a company, what experiences you have and, if you have to, start using bidding software to help you prioritize your offerings. There is loads of competition out there, so know what you’re great at and stick to it.

  1. Know How To Impress

In the construction game, impressing a client comes down to three main things; quality, price and time. That’s it, which is why you need to demonstrate how you can deliver all three. This could be presenting your portfolio to show your expertise and range within that budget and timeframe. It could be using construction time lapse cameras to demonstrate how you better improve each job. It could be the use of testimonials that sell your ability to produce high-quality work at an affordable price. Whatever it is, demonstrate how you meet these three needs.

  1. Accolades Win Clients

Every business that is trying to make its mark on the market goes for and wins, business awards, and this is very much the case within construction. With so much stiff competition out there, a recent accolade could be the defining quality that snatches the gig. Don’t worry, you don’t have to get the Master Design Award straight off the bat. It could be a health and safety award or quality contractor seal of approval. Anything that will make you stand out, to begin with. Then grow from there.

  1. Be As Accessible As Possible

If you want to get more jobs to make more profit then you have to be accessible to potential clients, and the more avenues the better. Have a contact us section on your website, offer a free phone telephone number, let them tweet and Facebook message you for free estimations; everything and anything. What’s more, have someone there to reply as soon as possible. It’s all about customer service. Whatever work a client has, chances are, it is going out for tender and, more often than not, this can come down to who replies first and who is the more human and helpful. It is as simple as that.
