The Straight-Up Facts About Good Posture for Entrepreneurs

As an entrepreneur or small business owner, slouching all day can wreak havoc on your health and may impact the success of your business. Practicing good posture can go a long way in reducing fatigue and increasing productivity. Read on to learn how to improve your posture for your health and business.

It’s hard to perform at your potential when the body is slouched and the neck is craned. By correcting your posture when sitting, standing or walking, you allow the spine to lengthen and the chest to open. This eases tension and helps the breath flow more freely. Oxygen is able to penetrate more deeply into the lungs. Vital organs aren’t being compressed, which allows them to function at their full capacity.

Practicing good sitting posture starts with your feet, which forms the base for healthy alignment. Keep your feet flat on the floor and make sure your knees bend at a right angle when seated. Avoid crossing your legs since it may affect circulation. If you’re at a desk, adjust the computer monitor height so it’s slightly above eye level. Keyboard height should keep arms at a 90-degree angle. Check in with your body often and take posture breaks every 30 minutes to an hour.

Your body language speaks volumes to colleagues and clients. Sitting and standing taller could make you feel empowered and confident — especially during business meetings, conferences and interactions with employees in the office. Optimal body alignment may also increase your energy and focus, so you can get more work done throughout the day.
