Business owners are given the ability to wade through prospective employees to find the absolute best recruits that will fit a company’s pace and culture. For those that would like a glimpse at great hiring practices, here are four options that could lead to low turnover rates and an amazing team.


1. Improving Your Recruitment Pool

The recruitment process can seem exhausting, especially for those companies lacking an established HR department. Many business owners themselves will have to look through every single application themselves, but this hassle can be reduced by improving one’s recruitment pool. Local ads are often the easiest way to reach large groups, but a company should also attempt to build a relationship with local college recruiters and focus on industry-specific magazines or websites.


2. Looking at In-House Potential

This is one of the biggest debates that a business owner will go through when filling a position. Recruiting from within one’s company is generally seen as a great option, but it can be easier said than done. In order to avoid any major issues, it is often best to make it known that a position is open. Then, current employees have the opportunity to step forward if they believe that they would be a good fit.


3. Cutting Tax Expenses by Narrowing Search Criteria

Business tax credits can be a lifesaver for a company, especially one that is in its earliest stages. By focusing on a few unique areas, a company could be looking at huge savings in the coming years. Recent laws have made the hiring of military veterans extremely lucrative, but other employees that could provide tax credits include welfare recipients, the family of welfare recipients, ex-felons, and vocational rehab referrals.


4. Hiring Out of the Field

Many students or trainees will find themselves entering into the job market but unable to find work within their field. This does not meant that they are not willing to work hard and move up through a company though. By focusing on the personality and work ethic of the potential employee, a business could find itself with a great new member to the team.

It may seem like an ongoing chore, but taking the extra time to improve one’s hiring practices could make the difference in the continued growth of a company.
