Yes I definitely agree that you should go what works for your company. Its not a one size fits all system for all business. I don’t have any idea of companies that have this kind of structure, but I think its good corporate social responsibility. As long as there is profit and cash flow for the company. Why not give a few shares to employees who are truly working hard as incentives.
