Anyone can have a nice looking office, but it’s how you can make a good office into a great one that is important. There are plenty of things that you can add, but what does it need?
Remember that if you have employees, your office will need to be able to cater to their needs too, as well as just your business’s.
Here’s a list of the most important things you need in your office, the things you should think about when it comes to having a wonderful office.
No one wants to work in a dirty environment, so whether this means cleaning it up yourself or hiring someone to come in and do it, it’s definitely worth it. Things as simple as vacuuming the carpet and mopping the floor can make such a difference to the room. So once every week, make sure it’s polished, swept and decluttered to ensure a clean workspace for you and your employees.
A lot of natural light
Ceiling lights are fine, but natural light is better. It not only makes a room look and feel more open and inviting, but it’s free! You don’t need to be running up the electricity bill from lighting up your office if you have the sun shining through all day. This can be done two ways; choose an office that has lots of windows around the room, or have them built in. If your office is on the ground floor, even changing the door to a glass one may be enough.
It is so important to invest in good quality computer chairs as a pose to settling for a good deal. If you don’t get the best, you can expect you and your employees to be in constant discomfort while working. Your back and neck will ache, and you may actually cause yourself an injury because of this. So make sure you get the best for everyone. Something that can support your weight and distribute it evenly, while sitting you correctly with a straight back. You can expect many thanks from your employees, as well as your own body!
This doesn’t mean you need to invest in building a whole kitchen on site. But you should try to have at least a sink, fridge and a kettle (or a coffee maker if you’re feeling fancy.) This way people have a place to store their lunch, make a drink throughout the day, and wash up and clean their hands if they want to. This just makes life easier for everyone, instead of expecting people to go out and pay for a ridiculously priced coffee every time they fancy a drink.
You can’t expect anyone to show up to work if they don’t feel safe there. So make sure you have fire and burglar alarms installed in the right places, along with locks on all doors, cabinets, and drawers. Another way of ensuring you all have the right security, is by practicing work safety training every few months to make sure everyone is up to speed on what to do in the event of an emergency.
